The daughter of WO (Ret’d) Brian Austin has sadly informed us of the passing of her father on 15 July 2025.
Sue writes:
Born in Kent during 1941, Brian left school and was initially an engineer in the local coal mine until he decided to see the world and joined the RAF in 1960. Brian held both SI and CI annotations and had tours at the following RAF units: Watton, Wildenrath, Hartland Point, Akrotiri/Episkopi, Rudloe Manor, St Athens, Gutersloh, Gan, The Falkland Islands, Northern Ireland and various stations in Lincolnshire.
Brian was also an accomplished horse rider, polo player and represented the RAF at target shooting.
After retiring from service in 1996 Brian worked at RAF Waddington as a civilian and in his later years enjoyed riding his classic motor bikes, acting as Parade Marshal for the RAFA at Lincoln Cathedral and walking his son’s dog.
Brian was an active member and regular participant of the East Midlands Branch which he attended with his wife, Mavis.
Sadly, in the last 3 years Brian’s health deteriorated due to Alzheimer’s but he never lost his dry sense of humour.
The funeral for Brian will take place at Lincoln Crematorium (LN4 1EF) on Monday 18 August 2025 at 11:30hrs. It would be nice to see his former friends and colleagues. No dress code.
Please contact Jim by Friday if attending

Brian was a huge asset to the trade with his great knowledge and experience.
RIP Brian, duty done.
