Geoff Studerus has informed us that his sister-in-law’s husband, Sgt Richard Allan Findlay, a former RAF Police Dog Handler, passed away on 9 September 2025. Geoff writes:
“I am sorry to have to inform you of the passing of my brother-in-law, Sergeant Richard Allan Findlay, RAF Police Dog Handler. He retired from the Service at RAF Newton in June 1984, after 22 years’ service, and remained in the Nottingham area with his wife, Sue.
He was a proud member of the Royal Air Force Police, and was a well respected member of the Royal Air Force Police School where he was employed in a variety of posts involved with the design of training, standards, improvement and management of Service police dogs and instruction of their handlers. He was also proud to have been involved both in the training and use of Drug Detection Dogs and, in co-operation with H M Customs, was pleased to have been responsible for the recovery of significant amounts of illegal drugs.
He trained at RAF Netheravon, and served at RAF Wyton, Episkopi, Debden (twice), Sharjah and Newton.
He died at home on the morning of 9th September 2025 after a short illness, and his funeral was held on 30th September 2025 at his local church and crematorium.”
